View From My Nomad Office: Nevados de Chillán, Chile

Every Monday morning I post a photo with a view from my “office,” whatever that happens to be at the moment. Some of them, I imagine, might make you jealous, but others will probably make you grateful for your cubicle and your Mr. Coffee machine. At the very least, you’ll get a glimpse of the digital nomad life.

Last week I said La Parva was my favorite place in Chile. Well, I changed my mind. Nevados de Chillán pretty much kicks La Parva’s butt all over the playground. Excuse my lack of eloquence, but I’ve only slept for five hours in recent memory because all of Chile, us included unfortunately, was trying to drive back to Santiago last night. (Because apparently it was Easter?!?! Lol, whoops, missed that memo.) Nothing like sitting in stand-still traffic at one am to really put everyone in a fantastic mood. But not even the traffic or the no-less-than EIGHT accidents we saw on the side of the road could put a damper on our weekend. Nevados de Chillán is just that marvelous.

Think thick, loamy dirt and black, volcanic sand. Then add in a dash of snow-capped peaks and startlingly bright fall colors. Now you have some idea of how fabulous this place is. I plan on writing an entire post dedicated to the wonder that is fall in Andes, but for now, enjoy this snippet of my weekend office:

Here I am, enjoying some over-priced instant coffee (Chile, I love you, but SRSLY, your definition of coffee needs some adjustment) and getting in some “work” while Macky and Sean race. It was sunny. There were mountains. Naturally I got no work done. I did however decide that I really need to add a fish-eye lens to my repertoire. Because, apparently, it can make everything awesome. Even my shitty coffee.

What do you think? Could you work here?

I want to start featuring the offices of other bloggers and travelers in this series. If you have a great “view from your office” shot, please shoot me an email at syd@sydschulz.com!

Happy Monday!

  1. I will take it!

I just found your blog and, god, you’re really making me reconsider traveling north from Costa Rica. Chile is looking damn fine!

  2. Ah, that’s beautiful! But, yeah: Chilean coffee is pretty terrible. I still can’t figure out why Chileans prefer that packaged swill to fresh Colombian or Peruvian coffee, which shouldn’t be very difficult to import. Right?
