Color Palette of Rotorua
22 Mar 2014
Last week, one of my fav travel bloggers, Liz Carlson from Young Adventuress, wrote a post called Queensland in Color, in which she showed us Queensland, Australia one color at a time. Gray for koalas, red for the outback, etc. You should check it out. Incidentally, Liz is now living in Wanaka, New Zealand and I was able to set off a kiwi hospitality chain reaction and find her a place to stay for her first night. One of the many reasons I love New Zealand and travel blogging!
Anyway, I decided organizing Rotorua by color would be a good way to share my love of this place and also showcase some of the freaky weird geothermal stuff that Rotorua has going on. Basically the color palette of Rotorua is not like the color palette in other places. I.e. there is yellow mud. And the sunsets are pretty extraordinary, too. (Sorry, there are no koalas.)
Pink
Orange
Yellow
Green
Blue
Gray
Brown
**Note: While I have edited these photos slightly, that was only to get them back to what they looked like in real life. There really is a lime-green pond in Rotorua.***
Have you been to Rotorua? Have you ever seen colors like this? Please share!
Rotorua is insane with its colors!! I’ve been to the geothermal park you went to – I, too, have photos of the lime green pool!
Thanks for backing me up! haha ;)
Beautiful. AND – a great idea to illustrate an area. HMMM – the colors of Costa Rica, coming soon? Wonderful pictures, by the way.
I think maybe this is going to become a trend…
Nice palette indeed! I really like your sunset shot! Nice composition and awesome colors :).
Okay, I have to admit, my boyfriend took the sunset shot. But he does have a very good eye! :)
I like the idea of writing a post about the colors of a place! We loved Rotorua when we were there and the Wai-o-tapu Park is simply a wonderland as they call it. The Champagne Pool is one of the most beautiful natural formation I have ever seen, I am so jealous of you guys that you just went there!:) I keep New Zealand in my heart and I really hope to go back there in the following years, although living in Spain it means that we would have to go to the exact opposite side of the globe:)
Yeah, harder to get farther away than Spain… :(
Awesome! Great photo and a cool idea! Love it..
Too cool, glad I could be of some inspiration :) I wish I had explored more of Rotorua, I still haven’t seen the lime green lakes yet! I guess I have to go back :D
Yeah, Rotorua is worth some exploring. Not quite as dramatic a landscape as the south island, but I like it.
Really like the orange! I’ve always wanted to see this type of place, the steam coming out of it and all, it looks amazing! And really like the idea of the colour palette!
Orange is my fav too!
I love the idea of presenting a place through colors. Beautiful! I like geothermal places like that. We’ve been to the Solfatara in the Napoli area and we’re heading to “La Soufrière” in Guadeloupe in a few weeks :-)
I haven’t heard of either of those places but I’ll have to check them. I’m a total sucker for geothermal.
What a great idea to show the place through different colours. My favorite colours of Rotorua, as seen here, are orange and green.
Haha, orange is my favorite color in general so I guess it’s no surprise it’s my favorite here, too!
I love how you create such unique posts Syd! Who would have thought to put together a post of Rotorua through contrasting colors. But it works really well and it captures the reader to continue looking through your high quality images.
haha, thanks!
Gorgeous! Love that lime green lake, never seen one with that color, crazy!
I know! totally crazy!
great photos!
Thank you!
What a fresh and unique way to feature a location! I’m so impressed! Geeze, you’re a smart cookie. I’m an orange girl, myself. Love that shot.
Haha thank you. Although it wasn’t entirely my idea!
Ah Rotorua. What a wacky and smelly place! I remember visiting so clearly… I’ll never forget those colours… or that smell! Great photos!
Great idea for a post and I love these photos! Liz is one of my favorite bloggers as well :)
yes, she is rad!
Wow I am loving that lime green pond! Those are some very interesting colors – definitely ones that I am not used to seeing in person! I must visit here someday.
