Photo Essay: A Study in Fog

I know what you’re thinking–enough with the fog. And I totally get you…I’ve been telling the weather that ever since I moved to coastal California and it hasn’t listened to me either. But seriously, a photo essay on fog makes sense right now. If it helps, you can look at it as a metaphor for my brain. This is my brain on finals week. This is my brain two weeks out from college graduation. This is me not starting a 12-page research paper that is due on Friday (I know, I know, it’s still Wednesday, I have plenty of time) and yet not managing to really do anything else either. This is me realizing that I’m 10 days away from being done with academia (and that I have no intention of ever going back). This is me trying to figure out what I want to do with my life, and maybe even, goddamnit, who I am. There’s a lot going on here. Or maybe it’s just a bunch of pictures of fog. Your call.

Sun and fog.

Eventually, as you can see, the fog lifted and we saw Trinidad in the sun. It was beautiful. So maybe there is hope for me yet.

  1. I hope the paper and exams went well. You are at the finish line and may as well sprint to it.

Your essay did make me think about the role an academic institution should play in integrating a student into the economy. They have always taken pride in developing clear thinking, problem solving, and creativity. Is that enough? Your call. Trade schools tend to take it more seriously that a job at the end of the rainbow is expected, but then their education packs the candidate into a one-size-fits-all container. Enjoy your time outside the container, and know that if you remain decision-less, life will make the decisions for you.
